A national competition winning entry for a multi-storied administrative block and auditorium for a major university in Tanjore , the design strives to create an interesting vertical form serving like a signpost for the sprawling low rise campus. The lower floors housing a 1000 seater auditorium forms a podium like base for a slender office tower with staggered cantilevered landscaped floors creating a staggered profile. The design provides for three community zones to augment the sense of belonging. An amphitheatre on the roof of the auditorium , an open terrace cafeteria at the second floor level and an observation deck 170 feet above. An unusual mix of two building types access , services and structure are articulated to ensure smooth working. Passive and active solar design results in an energy sensitive building.
